Help A Local Business Feature

filed under: Featured Businesses, Relay for Life Sherwood posted on March 21st, 2010

We have several past clients who own their own businesses and we do our best to help them out as much as we can. Even in challenging times, Audrea has been able to meet and or exceed her goals and and is close to reaching a huge one through her company: qualifying for a much needed trip. The catch, she has only 10 days left to do so and is very close to reaching it (March 31st is her deadline). As the flyer states, with a $40 order, you can order anything for half price plus the discount list to shop from. You can get this by simply entering “March Madness” as the host name under the host look up option on her website. Her other March Promotions: Host a party and receive a hurricane of your choice for $24.95, 3 dozen tea lights and a garden “critter” for $14.95 to name just a few! And, if you don’t live locally and just want to shop on her website, there are also internet specials via her website and your order will ship directly to you.

There’s more: Audrea will even give you a *$25.00 gift certificate for FREE shopping when you place a $100 or more order with her. So, feel free to pass on Audrea’s website information about all the great discounts so that your friends and family can also take advantage of them (*this special gift certificate ends March 31st, 2010).

Not only is she a rep for Partylite®, but also a mother and local area volunteer. Last year she got involved in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event. She didn’t stop with just participating in Wilsonville’s event, but also had a very successful fundraising team at the Relay For Life of Sherwood too.

If you are in need of some wonderful Partylite® products, please consider contacting Audrea L. at 503-572-1316. Got her website at: http://www.partylite.biz/sites/LotmanCandles/productcatalog

A Reflection of 2009…

filed under: Featured Businesses, Oregon Real Estate, Real People Real Stories, Real Stories posted on December 31st, 2009

(Todd & Leslie McCabe and Daisy too)

Challenging would probably be the best word to describe 2009. We witnessed so many sad stories this year: families struggling to make ends meet, a sick loved one, loss of job, a death, divorce, loan issue after issue after issue….the story goes on and on. For us, every situation, we too felt the sorrow, sadness, and pain for each client. This year more then ever, it really was about “our clients needs” and we tried to be as selfless as possible as we knew at times, even though we didn’t earn what we should or really needed to, or we ended up advising a client to not sell, or to wait on a purchase, ethically and morally we know that we did the right thing for our customer. We do believe, what goes around, will come back around. Even as tough as this market was, we sold 45 homes! We are truly blessed and very thankful to all of you for your trust and confidence in our real estate team.

The McCabe Real Estate Group made many positive business changes. We hired two Buyers Real Estate Brokers expanding our team and adding to the exceptional customer service we are proud to provide to our clients. We embraced technology: we added a blog and hired a videographer to produce several videos for us. We added a business page to Facebook, got onto Twitter (which we still are not too gunge ho on but we are there) and increased our client’s visibility on the Internet selling more homes then we anticipated in this tough market.

In 2009, even in these tough economic times, The McCabe Real Estate Group increased our giving to our community and causes that are/were important to our clients, friends, family and even business associates. Giving back to our community is a big part of our business philosophy. Not only do we take care of our customers by doing extra, but we also take care of our community. The more we sold, the more we would give back. We offer no gimmicks to get your business…just honest hard work that are clients will attest to which is why once again, the majority of our business was based on referrals.

We are grateful to everyone who supported events we organized or participated in as sponsors and or volunteers. Events we are passionate about. To our community for supporting our Annual Benefit Egg Hunt where every penny we raise is donated directly to a family in need. Our 2009 hunt raised over $2,000 for a local Sherwood boy who has an inoperable brain tumor. In only 3 years our Annual Benefit Egg Hunt has raised over $6,000, all going to local families in need, and all who had children with cancer. A sincere “thank you” to Archer Glen Elementary School, Sherwood School District, The City of Sherwood, and to all the volunteers who stepped up and helped us on a beautiful sunny Saturday. Planning has already begun for our 2010 Benefit Easter Egg Hunt. We are grateful to everyone who supported us at two Relay For Life events: Beaverton and Sherwood. We are very passionate about hoping that someday a cure for all forms of cancer will be found. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event is one that is very near and dear to our hearts and we again want to say “thank you” to everyone who supported us and came out to these two events where we were sponsors and also volunteers. Please help us keep this fight going…

For 2010, we hope that many first time home buyers will take advantage of the $8,000 first time home buyers tax credit. We hope to race literally to April 30th getting as many first time home buyers into escrow so that they can close by June 30th and to enjoy being a home buyer: big, small, yard, no yard, short sale, fixer upper…..everyone deserves to be a homeowner and we can’t wait to help customers take advantage of this exciting opportunity! The Government also extended up to a $6,500 tax credit to existing homeowners who have lived in their personal residence for at least 5 consecutive years. We hope to see an increase in this area and are ready to assist our past clients and many new ones take advantage of this additional tax credit.

We are thankful to Jason and Rick for joining The McCabe Real Estate Team. Rick and Jason not only are wonderful, honest, and ethical realtors, they are very good friends and we are blessed to have them as part of our group. We look forward to a succesful 2010 and are excited for the new year to start!

From Todd, Leslie, Jason and Rick, we offer a sincere “thank you“. Thank you so much for your business and for many a long term friendship. We are very excited about 2010!

For all your real estate needs in the Portland Tri-County areas, please don’t hesitate to contact The McCabe Real Estate Group, 503.880.9865.

Happy New Year!

The McCabe Real Estate’s July/August Featured Business

filed under: Featured Businesses, Item of Value, Real People Real Stories, Real Stories posted on July 31st, 2009

July Featured Business: Kazuri Images
Featured in Photo: Photographer, Darci VandenHoek

When people ask me how I got started in photography, I have to first smile to myself. I then settle back and prepare for a lot more questions when I respond that I technically acquired my photography skills shooting crime scenes. For the last 11 years I’ve been employed as a CSI and photography goes with the job. Tongue in cheek, I briefly contemplated the motto “I shoot people” when I began my photography business, but felt it lacked a certain professionalism that I wanted to portray, particularly when I’m trying to keep my day job on the down‐low.

I try and move beyond the CSI questions quickly by letting people know my real interest in photography developed when my kids were small and I wanted more out of their photos than a toothy headshot on a blue background. I knew I could do better myself, so I did! Things snowballed from there and in June of 2008, I opened my studio in Old Town. Because of my day job, and Oregon’s rain, you’ll find me in the studio in the evenings or on weekends by appointment.

(print this coupon for $50 off your first session. Thank Darci!)

It has been my focus since the beginning to capture real moments in life, nothing canned or forced. That might mean photos of a crying child or a flustered bride rather than rows of posed smiles, but the result is beautiful… kazuri images. “Kazuri” is the Swahili word for good or beautiful, reflecting two years that my husband and I spent in Kenya, E. Africa. It is my desire to do more with my photography than capture life events, weddings or portraits.
To that end, I offer discounts to law enforcement (so call me biased) and military families. As well, I volunteer my time with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, an international organization that provides free bereavement photography services to families of infants who never leave the hospital. (http://www.nilmdts.com/) I’ve found that sharing my talents this way has brought a different artistic perspective to my photography work, perhaps created a unique desire to show more emotion in and through all my work.
When I put people in front of my camera, I tend to “see” more of who they truly are than a casual conversation might reveal. I look forward to meeting you all through my lens!
To see my work, please go to www.kazuriimages.com.

‐ Darci VandenHoek
Darci is also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event of Sherwood, Oregon. She is the Logistics Co-Chair.

“We would recommend Darci to anyone. We have seen her pictures and they are simply breathtaking.”

Sherwood, Oregon Top Ten Family Friendly Places To Live

filed under: Featured Businesses, Making the Papers, Oregon Real Estate, Real Stories, Relay for Life Sherwood, Sherwood Oregon Real Estate posted on July 9th, 2009

As personal residents of Sherwood, Oregon, we personally know why it was recently named by Family Circle Magazine as one of the top 10 best towns and cities for families. Sherwood, Oregon, with a population over 16,000 seems to pride it self on many people being local volunteers, family friendly festivals and community events, great schools, tons of walking paths and I could go on and on to name a few. A community that introduced almost 5 years ago an American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event that in only 4 years, has raised over $200,000 for cancer research, education, and advocacy (we are very proud to have been a part of bringing this event to Sherwood, Oregon).

In its August issue, the magazine lists the city as one of the perfect places to call home based on such criteria as affordable housing, good neighbors, green spaces and its public school system.

This now adds to also Sherwood, Oregon being recognized in 2006 as a candidate for an “All American City” ranking and in 2007 Sherwood, Oregon was ranked No. 18 in Money magazine’s “Best Places to Live.” We are not moving.

Consider your next home in Sherwood, Oregon. For real estate in Sherwood Oregon, contact one of the area’s top producers and most recognized realtor teams around town as local volunteers, and successful agents, contact The McCabe Real Estate Group at 503.880.9865.

Green Series Continued By The McCabe Real Estate Group

filed under: Featured Businesses, Green Series posted on May 21st, 2009

Today’s article, part of our continued “Green” Series comes from Missy Gerber, owner of Organizers Northwest. Missy was featured on one of the episodes of the hit TLC TV show, “Little People Big World” when Matt and Amy Roloff needed help with getting their home organized.

If you are ready to get rid of the stress and need some organization, contact Missy and her company. They will help you get back to a clean and more “green” way of living.

Being Organized is GREEN!
What does being organized have to do with being green? Plenty! The organizing industry is naturally green by design. By singing the Reduce – Re-Use – Recycle song, we help people improve their own environment as well as the larger world.
REDUCE
Reduce your purchases! A common misconception people have of hiring an organizer is that you will need to buy a bunch of organizing products. Nothing could be further from the truth! We encourage just the opposite – stop spending and stop bringing more stuff into your space. We can do a lot of organizing by putting like items together and giving everything a home. For example, when your garage is organized, you know exactly where that can of WD40 is. This prevents duplicate purchases which saves you money.
Reduce your paper! When you pay your bills online, you reduce your
carbon footprint, your bills get paid on time, and you get the additional benefit of automatically reducing the piles of paper in your home. It is much easier to manage your paper when there is less of it. To reduce the incoming paper, go to this link and ask to be removed:
DMA – Send $1 to Direct Marketing Association; PO Box 282, Carmel, NY 10512. Ask to be removed from their mailing list
.
Go to http://www.directmail.com/ and ask to be removed from their mailing list.
Credit Card Opt Out – Call 1-888-567-8688 and enter the information requested to remove yourself from credit card offers. You may also remove the names of others in your household.
Reduce your stuff! Be aware of what you are bringing in to your home. Maintenance equals one item in and one item out; in order to get ahead, one item in and two or more items out. How many coffee mugs, t-shirts or Tupperware containers do you really need?
RE-USE
Repurpose items you own to avoid making new purchases. Favorite coffee mug chipped? Use it to hold pens on your desk. Bath towel getting frayed? Cut it into rags and quit buying paper towels. Don’t spend $20 on an acrylic jewelry tray, use an egg carton.

RECYCLE
When you organize your possessions, you get rid of those things that no longer server you. Donate that dress or suit you no longer wear to Dress for
Success http://www.dressforsuccess.org/ and be happy knowing that someone else will love it like you once did. Donate that old cookware to Community Warehouse http://www.communitywarehouse.org/ to help out a family in need. Not sure where to donate your item? Post it on Donor’s Resource http://www.donorsresource.org/ and know that it will go to someone who wants and needs it.
When your home is organized, you will set up zones for recycling, making it easier to achieve your recycling goals. You will finally have a designated spot for yogurt lids and all the plastic that needs to go to Far West Fibers http://www.farwestfibers.com/ instead of regular recycling. Are you confused about recycling in general? Place a call to the professionals at Eco-Guides http://www.eco-guides.us/ . They will come to your home or office and turn you into a recycling maniac!
When your office or garage gets organized, you will finally get rid of those old outdated computers. Free Geek http://www.freegeek.org/ would love to get their hands on them and make them usable for someone who doesn’t have a computer.
Having an organized home or office saves you money, saves you time, and helps you be a better steward of the earth. You will consume less, which is better for your wallet, waist and mind. What else could you want?

Please look for our “Green” giveaway announcement coming soon.
From the McCabe Real Estate Group, your local area real estate experts for Sherwood, Beaverton, Newberg, Hillsboro, Aloha, Tualatin, and entire Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas and Yamhill counties in Oregon.

Money Moments

Compliments of the McCabe Real Estate Group, real estate, in and around Sherwood, Oregon

How To Raise Financially Literate Children

(compliments of Carl Foster, CPA LLC , 503.297.2610 Portland, Oregon)

If everything your children ever learned about personal finance came from the mass media, they might think credit is a limitless resource and savings something you only find on a clearance rack,. to fill in the gaps in their financial education, parents should teach their children the fundamentals of handling money. But where do you start? Perhaps begin with the following benchmarks of financial literacy.

Time Value of Money

One of the most essential of all financial concepts is the time value of money. Children should be shown the benefits of saving money, watching it grow, and patiently deferring purchase until a future time. When children grow a little older, they can learn the reserve lesson: how debt today results in accumulate interest costs down the road. To illustrate the point, show them a loan amortization schedule for a typical car or home loan. That will get their attention.

Transactional Skills

In today’s cashless society, your children will someday need to know how to write a check, use a debit or credit card, and how to bank online. When they are ready, consider setting aside a morning to tame them to the bank, introduce them to a representative, and set p their first checking and bank card under the tutelage of the banker. Children will appreciate this rite of passage to adulthood, and they will learn how to navigate an ATM or bank web site the right way, not just the way you do it.

Keeping Good Records

You might feel a little hypocritical when pointing out your children’s record keeping shortcomings, but they probably need your help more than you think. Knowing how to reconcile a checkbook and track where they spend their money is a valuable life skill. Developing a system for safely storing receipts. warranties. and other valuable papers is also important. When they begin driving, point out the location and importance of the vehicle proof of insurance and registration.

Reflecting Your Values

Like any other are of life, you will naturally want to pass down truism that have guided you financially. Succinct phrases often suit this purpose quite effectively such as “keep a little gas in the tank, a little money in the bank.” Or, “don’t lace all your eggs in one basket.” Sound corny? Perhaps. But such sayings today might just remind your children of something important tomorrow.

Those who value philanthrophy should consider including their children in the charity selection process. Teach them why certain causes are important to you, and ho you determine the amount to give. Perhaps you could give your children gifting discretion over a small sum of charitable dollars.

Investments 101

The day will eventually come when your children will be ready to talk investments, retirement, and taxes. Feeling intimidated yet? There is no need to fear. Carl Foster’s firm can assist you and your children with these advanced topics. Being financially literate is not child’s play. But then again, neither is being a parent.

March Business Coupon: Amazing Maids

filed under: Featured Businesses posted on March 5th, 2009

Sherwood Oregon Real Estate (in and around Sherwood)

Owner, Deb McNab, started Amazing Maids nine and a half years ago after her son was born. At that time, she decided that she needed to put her past experience of running a cleaning company to use so that she could stay at home with her newborn son and three year daughter. She started Amazing Maids with a small business loan, two employees and with great family support. She said it was ” scary and a lot of work but looking back she would not change a thing”. Now in 2009, the company has 20 employees and has expanded their services to offer both residential and commercial cleaning.

Per Deb, their focus this year is to build stronger client relationships. They want to be recognized as a resource to their clients and not just another cleaning company. Last year, they went completely “Eco-Friendly”. They only use ‘Green Seal’ certified chemicals for cleaning which makes for a healthier home/ office environment and is safer for their employees too. They also use equipment that has been proven to be more sustainable for the environment and better for their employees too.

To use this coupon, simply print this page. Don’t wait, because the coupon expires March 31st.
